COBI-1: Winslow Master Plan Background Research and Planning Assistance

City Project Leads: Jennifer Sutton, Mark Epstein, Heather Wright
Faculty: Jess Zimbabwe and Katie Cote
UW Department: Community, Environment and Planning
Quarter: Fall 2021

The City of Bainbridge Island is embarking on an update to its Winslow Master Plan. Student work would support the Master Plan update by gathering background information and analyzing existing conditions and trends.

Specifically, students will review the history of the Winslow Master Plan study area with a comparison to the Winslow Sewer Area. Additionally, students will provide an analysis of what and where development has occurred in the Winslow Master Plan and Winslow Sewer Area since the last Winslow Master Plan update, with a focus on the amount and location of available land for growth. Lastly, a compilation of transportation information will be collected to understand current and projected conditions of the motorized and nonmotorized networks in the study area.

COBI-3: Kitsap Transit Digital Inclusion Project

Kitsap Transit Project Lead: Sanjay Bhatt
Faculty: Jess Zimbabwe and Katie Cote
UW Department: Community, Environment and Planning
Quarter: Fall 2021

Connectivity is critical not just for accessing information but for requesting transportation in real time and communicating during an emergency. This study would provide independent mapping and analysis of cellular coverage on Bainbridge Island. It would support the City of Bainbridge Island in its planning and disaster-preparedness work, as well as support Kitsap Transit, whose buses rely on Verizon to communicate their real-time location to customers through public apps (Kitsap Transit Tracker, Ride Pingo).
