Faculty opportunities for anti-displacement and equitable development projects in Skyway

The Livable City Year program is entering into a new partnership with the King County Department of Local Services and the Office of Councilmember Girmay Zahilay. The focus of the partnership is community needs in Skyway, Washington, in particular anti-displacement and equitable development.

At the county’s request, the Livable City Year program is seeking interested faculty for classroom projects related to anti-displacement and equitable development in Skyway. The projects can be conducted through a course or a capstone/practicum experience starting as early as Spring quarter, 2020, or be conducted during the 2020-2021 academic year. Both graduate and upper division undergraduate courses are eligible. The LCY program covers all project-related expenses, including materials, supplies and UCAR rentals to the partner community.

The county is interested in a creative approach that draws upon a range of disciplines. This document gives examples of the types of projects the county is interested in; they are open to other approaches as well.

To submit a proposal, faculty can use this simple online form or email the Livable City Year program manager Teri Thomson Randall, terir@uw.edu. Proposals can be as short as one paragraph. Faculty of the selected projects will work in collaboration with county staff to develop a Scope of Work prior to the start of instruction. Proposals for Spring quarter should be submitted as soon as possible, and no later than March 20.
